The city of Vienna is made up of a unique blend of both modern and ancient culture. In Austria's Northeast, Vienna is a perfect collaberation of cult and heritage. The city is known for it's architectural masterpieces which are set against the backdrops of wonderful, natural beauty forming a true masterpiece.
One of Vienna's claim to fame would have to also be the musical talent that this city has churned over time. It was the motherland to such amazing musicians as Mozart and Beethoven. Vienna has been an epicenter for art and flourishing entertainment.
With a rather thin population of around 2 million people, Vienna seems like a fairytale setting that inspired composers, poets and painters alike. Known for its admirable serenity, the city is in the list of world's top tourist attractions. The openness and vastness of the attractions in the city leave its visitors in a captivating trance.
There are magnificent examples of the art nouveau (Jugendstil) architecture that also flourished here. An interesting fact about the city is that apart from being the capital city it is also known as a federal province, surrounded by Niedersterreich (Lower Austria). It is home to many important international organizations including the United Nations.
My favorite time to visit Vienna is around Christmas time when the entire city is lit up with beautiful lights. The markets are flooding with people. Everyone piles over to the city hall for a film festival annually at this time. It's a must see sight. And for Vienna's real specialty events, of course, they are Mozart's concerts and operas.
The vast expanse of the palace of Hofburg is another ethnic piece of architectural excellence. As you travel through the palace, which is a small town in itself, you will find the office of the Austrian president, an international conference center, a number of museums, the chapel where the Vienna Boys' Choir sings and the hall in which the Lipizzan stallions perform.
When it comes to food, Vienna does not leave anyone disappointed. There is a plethora of amazing restaurants serving the city's famous cuisines. I can guarantee the food will stay in your memory for a long time. And there are numerous coffee shops where you can sit and take in the scenes over an espresso or cup of tea.
The weather in Vienna makes it a year round treat with its dazzling beauty. Its tourist season goes 12 months a year. For anyone who loves Europe and has not yet visited the scenic Austrian city of Vienna, I highly recommend you make arrangements!
Vienna cheap hotels are located through out the city. It's good to know when searching what class of hotel you may want to visit and what area you would like to stay in, though with the transportation system, you should be able to get around the city just fine.
